Basket of Hope is a Non Profit Organisation and was established in 2003. The organization is and has been managed by the husband and wife team, Michael and Christine Lakay. The organization resides from Crawford, Cape Town and is a home based organization.
Basket of Hope, is well known in the current community for their relentless hours of hard work, feeding and clothing children and adults in various informal settlements.
The organization is well known for their soup kitchen services as well as sandwich drives at local educational facilities in the area. Basket of Hope is solely dependent on donations from corporate institutions as well as local individual people. The funds is utilized to give the less fortunate a meal and also provide clothing and blankets for the homeless.
Christine Lakay is the driving force behind the whole initiative and Michael Lakay assists and supports her daily. She currently holds a staff complement of 8 people who assists in the daily running of the organization.
Since the inception of the organization, Basket of Hope has been supported by many corporate and small businesses in terms of growth and assistance with much needed donations.
The motto of the organization is to “make a difference”…and they have done this on a consistent basis and have been apart of the much needed change in communities.
